James Edwin Farrar (8 December 1950 - 29 October 2018)
Member of: Molly Hatchet (1980 - 1982), Gator Country (2005 - 2008)
Vocal Range: D3 - B4
Despite being overshadowed by the image of the other two singers in Molly Hatchet, Jimmy is mostly incomparable to them in his approach to singing, favouring a much more distorted yet resonant and belty style throughout his two albums with the band. This much more technical and savvy use of his voice arguably elevated Molly Hatchet to a new sort of relevancy in the '80s, having to reinvent their sound to accommodate for Jimmy's vastly different style of singing and reflecting the rock belters of the era more aptly than any other southern rock singer could.
Despite his apparent belting prowess, Farrar rarely, if ever, showed off any sort of low range to his voice and whether he'd have explored his limits much further had he stayed afloat post-Molly Hatchet is truly something to wonder as out of the three frontmen he perhaps had the greatest potential for a unique but technical vocal style with different types of songwriting.
