A true musician's musician, soulful songwriter Laura Nyro experienced remarkably modest success during her career as a musician. Her music incorporates a variety of styles ranging from the R&B/pop blend heard on her debut to the more folky, mystical stylings on New York Tendaberry. With her songs having been covered (and popularised) by the likes of Barbra Streisand and Morrissey, while Laura's work received widespread critical acclaim only posthumously, her influence among legendary artists like Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush is immediately notable.
Laura's vocal styling was an unorthodox one which would serve as a precursor for many female singer-songwriters to follow. Incorporating her jazz influences across her albums, Laura's ability to play with dynamics - switching seamlessly from brash, beltier passages into a wonderfully controlled head voice - was unique and endearing, further distinguishing Laura from her contemporaries. Her voice was perhaps unpolished, but it was arguably this itself which would serve as her greatest distinction as an artist, giving her music a deeply personal, intimate feel.
{A Few Examples of Her Voice}
A wonderfully dynamic performance.
One of her more popular songs, but a nice display of her head voice and melismas.
Shows off some of her chest voice here.

Questionable notes are any notes of questionable significance. In short, this spoiler acknowledges notes that I am aware exist, but do not want to contribute to the singer's range. These involve (but are not limited to) notes of questionable identity, notes of questionable legitimacy and notes of significantly poor quality.
