Charlotte Day Wilson (b: 1993, Toronto, Ontario, Canada)Vocal Range: C3-D6 Voice Type: Mezzo-SopranoCDW is a gifted musician who competently navigates multiple instruments, song writing, production, and best of all - has an amazing voice. Her songs feel like beautiful mood-pieces, representing a state of mind and moment in time with personal and introspective lyrics. After making a buzz with her beautiful single 'Work' and following some light releases, CDW released her debut album 'Alpha' in 2021 which is a really accomplished body of work and shows off her gift as a musician with wonderful instrumentation, lyrics and layered harmonies. Vocally she is a Mezzo-Soprano with a voice which sits not exceptionally low but low nonetheless with anything above G♯4 feeling fairly high. Her voice is bluesy, warm and sometimes dark. CDW has demonstrated an ability to sing up to a D6 although it should be noted that this requires some effort, rarely happens live and due to her placement and vocal style, is something she appears to be indifferent over, preferring to focus on her tone and ability to create ambience. An extremely cool singer who always has a quiet storm brewing within.

aighty, thread note time: - ♯ and ♭ symbols - contrary to what a user above me has stated there is no "correct" blue shade, though it is better to make all the blue notes the same shade - the b5 is pretty much a c6 - might wanna put the vocal description above the significant notes section, though that's just a personal preference as its easier to read - consider adding a questionable notes and discography/vocal timeline section (in general for threads) keep it up, hope to see more in the future Hey! Thanks for your feedback, I was a little nervous as although I am fairly musical so I'm confident with what I hear, obviously I'm new to posting! I'll change the B5 to a C6, I wasn't 100% confident with that note due to the echo from the mic, wasn't sure if it was "clean" C6 if you get me. Thanks again!

interesting that every falsetto note has been bolded No, the thread is a work in progress and hasn't been completely colour coded yet. I wanted to get a head start by colour coding the ones with hyperlinks. It will be finished soon. FYI though almost everything A4 and above from Charlotte is either mixed or full head voice, so that section will mostly be blue. The highlighted Overjoy C♯5 is a rare example of a full chest belt from her. Full chest belts in the 5th octave aren't easy for her due to the weight of her voice.

Some of the bolded notes are incorrect B4s in "If I Could" are Bb4s E3s in "Find You" are F#3s (does she really drop down to a C#3 at some point? I can't find it) Eb3s in "Keep Moving" are E3s (I don't believe Eb3 is in the key of the song) Hey, I have all of her vocals isolated and IIRC the Find You C#3 was in a harmony. Let me go back to investigate. I'll be removing that bold anyway as on reflection I don't think it's strong for her. This was the first thread I made and it's still a bit of a work in progress but it's in a much better position than it was when I started, and my ear is a lot better now too. If I Could, I hear Bb4-B4? "I-i-iiif" specifically where she flips into head voice for the vibrato. Keep Moving you are correct and I'll edit soon. I've had a look over and everything else seems to be fine. She's quite challenging for a beginner because in her lead vocals she only really uses 1-2 octaves, and most of the "magic" tends to happen in harmonies or background vocals, which I need to highlight too. Of course there are odd moments of genuine surprise like her C6 and D6 which were easy to pitch and identify. Are you enjoying her music and voice? I'm not stopping until everyone realises this is the coolest woman on the planet right now.

She has a voice type now too... She is a Mezzo-Soprano and I'll be quite surprised if anyone debates this. (I believe she identifies as a contralto but she appears a very obvious Mezzo to me).

Personally I wouldn't just go by my ear no matter how good I think my sense of pitch is, I would always have a piano open even just in a browser tab to check and be very aware of the tonalities of the song at a given moment (although being an R&B singer she ofc may have some intentional notes that are out of the norm, but none of the ones I pointed out are) The "if I could" phrase is 3 notes from F4 - Ab4 - Bb4 (B4 is not in the key of the song at that moment which is Db major) Oh and she's a great singer, I tend to love these soulful voices personally. Easily a mezzo You are correct, I wasn't considering the key of the song... I find it harder to pitch that way (although learning)! Usually I isolate (unless it's very obvious) and then do my pitching from there. Thanks though, I appreciate your help. Also with Charlotte, she does tend to sing, I assume, very close to the mic as she creates a very intimate atmosphere but some of her lower notes can be soft and quiet, a little challenging to pitch. Same for a lot of her high notes actually, shes "quiet" at both ends of her range for me but then she can be more powerful in the middle. I can't see much change happening as she seems perfectly content with the type of singer she is and the music she's making.
