Angelo Carmen Christopher Moore

Recorded Range: C2 - C♯6

{Description}
Ska, funk, and some heavy metal are the kinds of sounds that await you in a Fishbone album. Fishbone is the perfect band to listen to when you want to stop taking things too seriously and have yourself a good time, while you also take things seriously and have yourself some social commentary.
But in all seriousness, the music and the commentary complement each other, creating a socially conscious but sonically delicious blend of eclectic party rock music.
Fishbone seeks to enlighten and entertain.
As frontman, saxophonist and lead singer Angelo Moore takes on a versatile approach: energetic yet emotionally fluid, adapting his tone to each part of the song's narrative and keeping a smooth flow between gentler confessions and intense climaxes. Putting it all together, he can deliver direct, heartfelt lyrics on dire topics like nuclear war, divorce with children, institutional racism, and the struggles of poverty in such a way that he gets the message across while still conducting the band’s lively party atmosphere. And his delivery is aided by many different components of his range.
From a technical standpoint, Moore's got the whole package. Since Fishbone’s start in the early ‘80s, Moore has demonstrated an impressive ability to crank out chesty belts song after song in the A4 - B4 range (with occasional chest belts up to C♯) and then mixed wails about an octave up from that, both live and in the studio. Going further, Moore balances these forceful highs with a smooth falsetto and a graceful, well-supported low range. Furthermore, his low range seems to go far deeper than what we often hear. Because while most of his leads in Fishbone bottom out in the third octave, he’s also proven himself capable through his solo work of strong, resonant notes stretching to the bottom of the second octave, a full octave below where he usually sets his lows and about two octaves below where he sings in general.
Whether this makes him a tenor with excellent control over his lows or a baritone who’s been fooling the world for years (or a bass who gorges on helium balloons), it just goes to show you never to judge a non-classical singer by their Wikipedia voice type, because chances are that voice type was dictated by the genre the singer performs.Plot twist: Angelo Moore is a soprano.
At shows, Moore dishes out the same power he brings to the studio, along with the gift of his mesmerizing stage presence. For in addition to busting out the sax, Moore has been known to do cartwheels, stage dives, cane twirls, and backflips (on SNL of all gigs), while sometimes sharing the mic with fans who jump onstage, walking out into seated venues to sing directly at the crowd, and casually belting B4’s while crowd surfing.
Today, even though he’s begun passing some of his more demanding parts off to bandmates, Moore still commands much of the same energy and range in live shows that he’s boasted all throughout his career. And in the studio, his voice really sounds stronger than ever, with plentiful belts at full force and practically no signs of wear and tear.
While Fishbone is where Moore has found the most mainstream success, he has also provided saxophone and backing vocals as a guest feature for numerous well-known acts including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Jerry Cantrell, Bad Brains, Avenged Sevenfold, and Gwen Stefani. Going the other way around, some notable performers that have had a guest feature on a Fishbone album include George Clinton, Rick James, Les Claypool, Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter, and Donny Osmond.
But I digress. In all pursuits, Angelo Moore has given us a magnetic stage presence that makes use of multiple instruments, a versatile persona that adapts well to different moods and stories, and a wide vocal range that features powerful highs across all registers as well as strong support from his high notes down to his lows.

{Questionable Notes}
B♭6 ("New and Improved Bonin’" [2, 4] In the context of this song, one of two things happened here: Angelo pitch-shifted his voice in this part, or the scream belongs to a guest singer.)
F6 ("New and Improved Bonin’" [5] The pitch and sustain are actually pretty good, but sadly it’s an inhale)
E6 ("Them Bones" live Museum of Pop Culture 2020 [3])
E♭6 ("The Warmth of Your Breath" [5] Sounds like an inhale. It’s pretty random/uncontrolled anyway.)
D6 ("Asswhippin’" [5] I am not counting anything from this song., "Mister Zero" [1])
C♯6 ("I Wish I Had a Date" [1], "Naz-Tee May’en" [2])
B5 ("V.T.T.L.O.T.F.D.G.F." [1, 3])
A5 ("Organic Anti-Beat Box Band" [2], "Party at Ground Zero" [3], "Slick Nick, You Devil You" [1] Lands in key, but too loose for the most part, "Slow Bus Movin’ (Howard Beach Party)" [1])
G♯5 ("Fight the Youth" [3])
F♯5 ("Freddie’s Dead" [1, 3] Voice crack)
F5 ("AIDS & Armageddon" [5] Inhaled note, "Drunk Skitzo" [5] It’s kind of consistent, but it’s a bunch of random yelling, "Ska Diddy" [1, 3], "V.T.T.L.O.T.F.D.G.F." [5] Inhaled note)
C5 ("Moore en Kara" [2])
A4 ("Kung Fu Grip" [2])
B♭2 ("I Wish I Had a Date" [3])
G2 ("In the Air" [5] Not enough tone/support, "Mighty Long Way" [2], "Skank ‘n Go Nuttz" [2])
E2 ("Flutterbutter" [4])
D2 ("One Day" [2])
C2 ("Bitch Magnet" [5] Intention is there, but it lacks support, "Drunk Skitzo" [3] Toneless fry, "One Time Spacesuit" [1, 3])
B♭1 ("Science of Pants" [1, 3])
A1 ("Fate" [1, 3])
G♯1 ("Icepick" [1, 3])
G1 ("Built for Love" [1, 5] Intention is there, but it’s way too breathy and short)

2. Notes whose singer is unclear.
3. Non-melodic (i.e. Spoken or off-key) notes that also lack a clear pitch.
4. Possibly pitch-shifted notes.
5. Notes that do not fit the labels above but whose quality is still unrepresentative of the singer's usual work (e.g. excessively distorted screams or sustained, but non-projected vocal fry).
