Ian George Brown (20 February 1963)
Member of: The Patrol (1980), The Stone Roses (1983 - 1996, 2011 - 2017), Solo (1998 - present)
Vocal Range: C♯2 - A5
Vocal Type: Baggy Baritone
{Vocal Summary}Frontman of Madchester's biggest band, Ian Brown was the homespun philosophical voice for The Stone Roses' catchy melodies, euphoric choruses, and funky grooves. Garage Flower featuring a more traditional post-punk outfit, with rough vocal takes, loose songwriting and noisy production. It took the band some 5-6 years to finally bloom into the psychedelic, jangly explosion of colour they are so widely known for today. The Stone Roses' self-titled debut was released in 1989 and would feature Ian at his peak -- a contemplative and melodic voice that he has went on to explore throughout the rest of his career.
In the studio, Ian's comfort zone seems fairly large due to his very particular melodies, and he is rarely heard breaking out of his established range. Though his low notes remain strong down to their very bottom, he sports nary a mixed voice and his high notes flip into falsetto soon after A4. Even if Ian's recorded range is surprising in itself, he is only a singer about vocal range insofar as he can fit it into one of his songs. Ian, the singer, only sings when he has something to sing about and Ian, the rock star, speaks only when he has something to say.
Although he has garnered infamy for his lack of pitch control in live settings, Ian's mannerisms as a frontman retain their influence in the English alternative rock scene, having no small part in the careers of people like Liam Gallagher and Tim Burgess. His stage behaviours and mid-concert ramblings come together to form a perfect mystic rock star persona that also persists off the stage, thanks to his propensity for responding to interviewers in a cryptic and cutting manner -- rarely taking what they have to say seriously. Look no further than the interview conducted by the Vox Pop in 1989 to find Brown seemingly at his most aloof.

b. Aimless breathy slide
c. Vocal fry
[2] Questionable legitimacy
a. Probably doesn't get there
[3] Questionable Identity
a. Cannot for sure be attributed to the singer in question
Questionable notes are any notes with a questionable significance. In short, this spoiler acknowledges notes that I am aware exist, but do not want to contribute to the singer's range. These involve (but are not limited to) weak vocal fry, uncontrolled slides, very short notes, notes hit at an ambiguous pitch and notes where it is unclear who is singing.
