Let's talk about record labels. Are there any good ones? Why do most of them suck? Why is UMG so cringe that they block Youtube videos that use any audio they own from being played anywhere but Youtube?
I'll start off the discussion by saying I've noticed that the Royalty Free labels like NCS and Ninety9Lives are much better to their artists than labels that copyright their music. Why do you think that is?

If money isn't the root of all evil, it sure isn't helping things...
As an artist (or someone attempting to be one), I'm rather skeptical of record labels. I mean, the aesthetic/vision of a record label with collaborations and promotion can be great of course, but there are undeniable amounts of exploitation involved in many of them. Limiting your creative freedom, all sorts of contractual red tape, copyright issues, taking such a big cut out of your paycheck that you could be bankrupt while selling millions of records (look up TLC, for a start)...I can't tell if singing to one could make my life or ruin it. With smaller record labels typically being part of some bigger conglomerate nowadays, you never know what could happen. Could find helpful people, unhelpful people, exposure, obscurity, losing compensation/royalties on the music you've participated in, whether you're a backing session musician or Taylor Swift...signing a recording company contract is definitely not a decision to take easily or too suddenly.
Though, as mentioned, some labels have unique styles and aesthetics that undeniably appeal to me. It's almost miraculous how some come together, like Daptone Records. Love that analog funk/soul style and I'm quite glad that they exist. Yes, this whole cautionary ramble was essentially a promotional tool for Daptone Records btw
Also, being highly famous looks awful and draining, and in a strange sort of way I pity the most popular artists on the planet

That's a pretty funny way of putting it.
