Ari Lennox describes her own voice as "vulnerable but soulful; imperfect but pretty". Well, I think she's being fairly modest as by all accounts and by anyone's standards - this right here is an impressive singer. In spite of her fairly notable lower extension, Ari Lennox is undoubtedly a soprano, with a voice which naturally sits high and has no issues belting up into the upper fifth octave. Ari can however add some really surprising depth to her voice in the 3rd octave, utilising dynamics one might not expect, whilst still delivering a sound warmer than one might expect from a mezzo soprano. For a soprano, she does everything you'd expect at the top end and generally sings quite comfortably down to around a D3, below this the voice becomes incredibly airy and begins to lose tone as it approaches the second octave. Ari mostly sings in chest and mixed voice, however, this appears to be a style choice as the head voice itself is robust and powerful and reaches it's ceiling in whistle territory where it is used competently with no issue and can be accessed immediately. Ari delivers powerful belts consistently and has tremendous soul to her voice, often going from soft and sultry to cutting and powerful, shifting dynamics to suit mood and style. A powerhouse in modern day R&B, Ari Lennox is deserving of the success and recognition she gets as she has the voice and artistry to back it up.
