As long as I'm not misreading the thread colours, the B5 from that outdoor performance in the raincoat is definitely falsetto(blue?). I do think TRP is liberal as all heck in noting 'mixed' notes when they are clearly falsetto, so this might be an uphill battle

But this particular note is just 100% clearly falsetto (that is, if im noting the right performance - I pitched a B5 for him at a Today Show performance but I can't remember the track name - and it was a very, very good note - but 100% inarguably falsetto imo).

Agreed. I'm surprised people don't consider Barry Gibb's falsetto mixed. It sounds much stronger and more "mixed" than many of the notes people count as black.

Sure it may be falsetto (I mean it's fucking Huey Lewis hitting a B5) but it's also a lot more coarse and harsher than his regular falsetto sounds, I don't need to get into another debate about note colours, you know the drill. It all just comes down to black doesn't always equal chest or mix it's almost completely dependent on the tone. Because if we used this metric it would be a lot more confusing and little to no male singers would have black notes above the lower fifth octave.

Because it's not, and never has been. Even if you look online for like lessons on how to active your falsetto, you can see that it really is just a subset of head voice. And we've been applying this to TRP for quite a while now.

*grits teeth harder* This is simply not true on a physical level. They are physically different registers engaging your larynx differently. So does whistle. This can be relatively easily illustrated to one's self. There's a reason singers who can't use their head voice can use falsetto..

I would recommend very, very strongly against taking internet voice teachers seriously. 

If that's what's applied here, there is no surprise. But this is wrong and not at all as meaningless as voice type discussions or misuse of a somewhat arcane term like 'anacrusis'.

He sits consistently on that soft falsetto tone even while going for the highest notes, at least on all the hits I've heard like "Stayin' Alive". It's veeery far removed from a resonant, strong mix that a talented singer can blend into their chest.

Barry could occasionally muster some really chesty-sounding high notes with falsetto (like in Reaching Out and Subway, for example). Not necessarily saying it's mix, but it has about the same amount of weight (or even more) than many black notes on other threads.

Plus, Barry's falsetto sounded kinda weird on the Saturday Night Fever stuff. It was normally quite a bit stronger than that in its prime.

Oh no. Timi, Im unsure how things like this got going, but as per my response comment here this is just blatantly untrue. Falsetto is physically, and tonally, a separate register to head voice. It always has been. It has never been a 'tone' of head voice. That is, to put it mildly, risible. It is plainly incorrect to note head voice notes as falsetto notes. Sure, we cannot be 100% sure in any given instance, but this is, as noted, not immaterial - it is worth getting this correct where perhaps voice types is not particularly interesting.
