Alright, I don't know if a thread like this has been made before but uhh whatever.
So this was somewhat inspired by a conversation I had a few weeks back when I asked our head admin which songs would be best for getting into the Police and then I was given a playlist of songs to listen to. And I like em! So I figured I'd do something like that myself but with some maestros I like so here goes, I will be making a list for songs and a list for albums under an artist/band, these are in no particular order (unless stated) and you can contribute some as well too. (also I'll try to avoid very obvious hits unless they're like, integral to the artist/band)
TL;DR: here are some songs and albums I recommend for certain bands and artists and you can recommend some too.
NOTE: when the albums are order from 1 to 10, it means what order you should check them out in.
Nick Drake:
Songs:
"Pink Moon"
"One of These Things First"
"Saturday Sun"
"From The Morning"
"Northern Sky"
"Things Behind The Sun"
"'Cello Song"
"Place to Be"
"Horn"
"River Man"
Albums:
1. "Five Leaves Left"/"Pink Moon"
3. "Bryter Layter"
The Kinks:
Songs:
"Strangers"
"Waterloo Sunset"
"20th Century Man"
"Nothin' In This World Can Stop Me Worryin' 'Bout That Girl"
"Picture Book"
"Village Green Preservation Society"
"Celluloid Heroes"
"Sunny Afternoon"
"Lola"
"Living On a Thin Line"
"Australia"
"Where Have All The Good Times Gone"
"Life on The Road"
Albums:
1. "The Kinks are The Village Green Preservation Society"
2. "Lola Vs. Powerman and The Moneygoround"
3. "Arthur or The Decline and Fall of The British Empire" (my personal favourite)
4. "Face to Face"
5. "Something Else"
6. "Muswell Hillbillies"
7. "Kinda Kinks" (if you want a good taste of their earliest stuff)
8. "Sleepwalker" (if you like arena rock)
9. "Misfits" (same as above)
10. "Give The People What They Want" (the best album from their Kinks go 80s era)
Elton John:
Songs:
"Daniel"
"Philadelphia Freedom"
"Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters"
"Dreamboat"
"Skyline Pigeon"
"Social Disease"
"Take Me to The Pilot" (if you don't like the original try the 17-11-70 version)
"Someone Saved My Life Tonight"
"Nikita"
"Boogie Pilgrim"
"Honky Cat"
"Burn Down The Mission" (honestly you could pick almost any song from Tumbleweed Connection)
"Funeral For a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding" (his best song, in my opinion)
and for some obvious hits
"Tiny Dancer"
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart"
"Bennie and The Jets"
"Rocket Man"
"I'm Still Standing"
"Saturday Night's (Alright For Fighting)"
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
Albums:
1. "Madman Across The Water"
2. "Tumbleweed Connection"
3. "Honky Chateau"
4. "Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy"
5. "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
(you can pretty much check out any other Elton John album after that. For a taste of his later stuff I'd pick "The Diving Board" first, but other than that, you're pretty good to go)
