{Summary}
“I don[']t sing very well at all above a C#/D. Hence we never ever have me over that range” (I am Martin Wahlgren, bass of Ringmasters - BHS 2012 Intl Quartet Champions. AMA)
Who? Martin Wahlgren was the founding bass of the Swedish barbershop quartet, Ringmasters. The group has been awarded many accolades and made history in 2012 by becoming the first non-American quartet to win gold metals at the International Contest. They continued to improve after winning, culminating perhaps in their popular "Notre Dame Medley." After a twelve year run, Wahlgren retired from singing in 2018 to focus on his family and career. Ringmasters continues to tour and sing with their new bass, Didier Linder.
No underlines? I’ve decided to forego the typical underlining procedure (with the exception of the E4 in "Four Seasons Medley" which is genuinely buried) since it would be 99% of the notes, even though in reality you can hear every single one of them by just listening for the lowest voice.
Voice type? Obviously he sings the bass parts, but his lead performance in "I'll Be Home for Christmas" reveals an arguably baritonal color and leads me to believe G♯3/A3 is his first lift. He doesn’t seem to have ever navigated above his break much according to the quote I listed at the top of this spoiler, however the E♭4 in “Sure on This Shining Night” implies some potential in the upper range. I wonder if he will ever return to singing and what he would sound like now...
Range-iest performance? “Eight Days a Week” B1 - B3 - G♯4
