Best A Cappella Performance (Solo): Nomination Thread (1,911 views)

Hello hello hello!

Following on from my previous thread, I'm kickstarting this competition with the first ever round. As mentioned in the title, the category for this round is Best A Cappella Performance (Solo).

The criteria for this round are:
• Clips are to be judged on the vocal performance of one singer, who must be performing a cappella (Best A Cappella Performance (Group) is a different category).
• Please list the singer and name of the song they are performing along with a link to the performance (with timestamps if necessary) in this thread.
• When voting, vote for the clip you consider to be the weakest a cappella performance. You must listen to all of the performances to vote. You are allowed to vote for the performance you submitted if you consider it to be the weakest of the remaining clips.
• Performances can be live or studio recorded.
• For this round, there is a maximum time limit of five minutes.
• You can only submit one performance, and you cannot submit a clip by a singer already submitted.

The deadline for clip submission is 23:59 Wednesday 14th June. Each round of voting will last 72 hours.

I'm treating this as a bit of a test run and there are things that have the potential to change, but hopefully we have a bit of fun whilst this is going on

Hmm, I gave this an extra couple of days to see if there’d be any more entries but apparently not. I’ll try again in a couple weeks’ or so when we get more interest to do a trial run for this because I don’t see much value in two people submitting things and voting, but I’d definitely like to restart this again at some point.

To be honest, I think giving people more than 3 days to submit clips in the first place might have helped (especially when it's summer for probably most of us). I wasn't aware that late submissions might be considered, so when I saw that I'd missed the deadline I didn't think to ask, but if you're still looking for entries I'll be back once I've decided between Bobby McFerrin and Cem Adrian. If everyone submits multi-tracked vocals for this category (which I think is quite likely), I'd also like to see a category at some point in the future for a cappella solo performances without overdubs (which would probably end up being mostly live performances) if other members are up for that.
One possible way to deal with low number of entries, if you wanted to, you could specify a minimum number and if that number is not reached by a certain deadline, invite any entrants who so desire to submit a second clip by another singer until the quota is reached? (Yes, I'm having a really hard time choosing between Bobby and Cem )

That's a fair point. I might do another category with a bit more broad appeal (as I feel this one probably does come across as a bit specific) and come back to this one a bit later on just to see if we can stir up a bit more interest.

As for your second point - that was actually something I was already considering! I was hoping ideally we'd get at least 10 entries to cover as broad a scope as possible, and in the future if that is something that ends up being an issue I have no personal qualms with allowing multiple selections
