{Vocal Summary}
Hailing from Tennessee, Joshua Brown has made himself a name as one of the most powerful post-grunge singers from the start of the last three decades. Starting in his band, the nu metal rockers Full Devil Jacket, he has shown a style similar to that of early grunge singers especially that of the late Mark Lanegan or Layne Staley. With Full Devil Jacket he uses a menacing and tortured sounding baritone with a lot of rasps even when belting high notes and has a lot of distortion with his screaming which sound aggressive and maniacal. After having survived an almost fatal heroin overdose however, he put FDJ for a rest and later formed Day Of Fire which in contrast to the latter does not use screaming and focuses more on a typical post-grunge style singing. Nevertheless, his work in DOF, has garnered him recognition for his emotional performances and lyrics on salvation and perseverance. A talent he would expand after reviving FDJ and a new band A New Rebel where he then had the confidence to expand more of his singing being able to belt higher without much rasp as in his earlier days and even more control with his melody. His high register can vary from having some distortion or not and his lower register tends to be a lot more cleaner being able to go low in a bluesy manner. Josh Brown is a force to be reckoned with in the world of post-grunge, having one of the most sincere and vulnerable singers in the genre and hopes to see where this brother has in store for the future.
