Josh Smith
Associated Acts: Ashes Remains (2001-present)
Vocal Range: F♯2-D5 (2 octaves, 8 notes)
Vocal Type: Alibis Losing Baritone
{Vocal Summary}
Florida native, Josh Smith has been well-known for his fronting of the post-grunge band Ashes Remain and has been lauded for their strong emotional anthems of worship and perseverance. His voice has been described as a raspy baritone with a lot of soul and melody. His early work had him use an almost whispering singing technique as to evoke emotion with moments of aggressive growls to his mood which sometimes leads him to use high fry-ish screams. His low register is strong though he tends to mostly sing around the high second octave to the low third octave while lower notes are sung in the background. His high register however is varied with his moments of strong belting, falsettos and the afford mentioning screaming while rare as the band progressed still is well known to hold long screams of urgency in their earlier work. His melodious side can very sounding soulful, bluesy and gruff as most post-grunge singers but knows when to change the texture of his voice. While not the most versatile vocalist, Smith still has more pluses as a singer than most in the post-grunge scene as he has a lot of sincerity and melody to keep even the most critical of the genre realize he has rhythm and grace.
