{Vocal Summary}As frontman of the virtuosic Swedish pop/jazz-fusion trio Dirty Loops, Jonah Nilsson is an absolutely incredible talent both vocally and on the keys. Taking numerous cues from Michael Jackson, Brian McKnight, and especially Stevie Wonder, his agile, melismatic tenor and brilliant reharmonization abilities are at the heart of both their original songs and the pop covers that put them on the map. His voice particularly shines in its upper register, with notes delivered powerfully and confidently in the mixed voice he heavily favors over pure falsetto. However, though his highs are excellent, his absolute range is smaller than one might expect due to his somewhat underwhelming lower register. While a casual listen might pick up quite a few pivotal "low notes" in his singing, upon closer scrutiny these are almost always simply lower third octave notes with a notably darkened tone. This one weak point aside, however, Nilsson is overall an excellent vocalist with immaculate tone and control. Though some may find his penchant for putting ornate vocal riffs and ridiculous fifth-octave notes in every single song a little much, for a band like Dirty Loops "a little much" is arguably the entire point.
