Joseph Rojas
Associated Acts: Seventh Day Slumber (1996-present)
Vocal Range: E2-E5 (3 octaves)
Vocal Type: Once Upon A Shattered Baritone
{Vocal Summary}
When it comes to Latino singers, most of the casual audience expect two things; passion and emotion. Texas native, Joseph Rojas of the Christian alternative rock/metal band, Seventh Day Slumber may be arguably the most well-known Latino singer in Christian rock music right after Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D., and for good reason. His gruff style of singing both his original songs and covers of famous worship hymns has been seen as one of a kind for casual listeners who may still enjoy the band regardless of their various beliefs. Early in his career, he used a more grunge style of singing with moments of moody performances reliving both his pain of the past to his redemption from a failed suicide attempt. While not the most creative lyricist, the emotion he brings to his performances makes up for the shortcomings. His voice only gets more stronger as the years go by, able to belt higher notes around the high fourth octave and even a few times the lower fifth octave while still maintaining his rasp and accent into the mix. Most of the time he will sing higher in backing vocals and even then in the bridges of the songs he’ll sing the same high note from the background. He also is a decent screamer, able to sound like a man at his breaking point in a few songs though these moments can be rare depending on if he feels the song needs screaming. His lower register is also strong able to go to switch to a lower note in seconds when singing in his baritone range though just like most post-grunge singers will mostly sing the higher second octave. Señor Rojas is no doubt a very persistent man who does not see himself stopping anytime soon and with more music planned in the future will only tell if he manages to expand more of his range.
