Vocal Range: F1-F♯5 (4 octaves, 1 note)
Vocal Type: Scarecrow Crashing Tenor
{Vocal Summary}
In the realms of Christian rock many times people can expect so and so vocals and subpar performances in most instances. With North Carolina native, TJ Harris that is not the case. Front man of two heavy post-grunge bands Fighting Instinct and Decyfer Down, he has been praised by most reviewers as a very passionate singer with a big emphasis on soul and mood in his music. His voice sounds very similar to that of the late Chris Cornell, Myles Kennedy or Richie Kotzen because similar to those singers, Harris has that vulnerable yet powerful vibrato and soulful tone that makes up for even some minor mishaps like lyrics and the generic musical tropes of the genre. His high register is well-controlled able to go as high as the mid fifth octave with a tasteful take adding some gruffness and grip in the mix that are strong enough that rarely he needs the use of falsetto. His lower register is also strong and melodic having great control of his vibrato and while he does follow the post-grunge cliche of not using the low register often it shows that he could go as low as the high first octave if he wanted to. And like a gospel singer manages to switch notes on a dime with a lot of vibrant melody and a love for the art. Harris is indeed a vocalist that surprised me despite being a listener since teen years and hopefully he has more in store in the future with that blessed voice.
