Roger Waters: 1. Go Fishing 2. The Final Cut 3. One of My Turns 4. The Gunner's Dream 5. The Trial 6. Every Stranger's Eyes 7. Run Like Hell 8. The Hero's Return 9. Don't Leave Me Now 10. 5:01 AM (The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking, Part 10)
This was from the old TRP2 thread. Any thoughts on this? Personally I think "One of My Turns" should be a bit lower.

Can't help but disagree with a lot of Mercury's live performances. Then again, he has a lot of great live material so it's hard to pin down to just 10. For one, Bohemian Rhapsody (live Glasgow 1979) is up there for sure as far as best performances go. There's debate on which BoRhap is the best, but here he nails BOTH verses, hits the Carry On Bb4 (although not as impressively as a few other performances) and hits the C5 in the rock section. Then there's this flawless version of "Don't Stop Me Now" which is worth mentioning "Now I'm Here" has some very solid performances, mostly from the crazy tour.

He often dodged high notes and sounded strained due to his vocal nodules and overall unhealthy lifestyle, but on short tours like the "Crazy" tour, he absolutely nailed it.

Can't remember a better live performances of "Bohemian Rhapsody".

For Chester Bennington:
Studio 1. "Given Up" - Everyone knows why 2. "No More Sorrow" - Similar to "Given Up" with a lot of Bb4s and amazing C#5s 3. "Crawling" - Nobody wants to sing this, crazy rasp up to B4 4. "The Messenger" - Shows off both sides of his voice, tops at C5 5. "Blackout" - Sleeper pick but crazy D5s and singing around C5 with amazing clean outro 6. "Soul Song" - One of his earliest songs, amazing B4s and C5s in the chorus 7. "Condemned" - His highest studio screams ever at E5 8. "Numb" - This song is just really hard to sing, no time to breathe at all, tops at A4 9. "Breaking the Habit" - Another really tough one to sing plus insane A4s 10. "The Little Things Give You Away" - Lesser known song but amazing outro with A4s and C5s
Live 1. "Paradise City" (Warfield Theatre, 2006) - Incredible D5s and just amazing singing from E4 to E5 2. "Given Up" (Selma, 2007) - Full 17-second scream plus the classic B4s 3. "Faint" (Rock am Ring, 2007) - Insane outro with C#5s up to E5 and crazy screams 4. "Crawling" (House of Blues, 2001) - Closest to the studio performance ever, amazing rasp 5. "QWERTY" (Summer Sonic, 2006) - Awesome transitions from singing to screaming 6. "Whole Lotta Love" (Warfield Theatre, 2006/Roxy, 2008) - Just an amazing cover, former tops at F5, latter at G5 7. "Highway to Hell" (Warfield Theatre, 2006) - Another amazing cover topping at D5 8. "A Place for My Head" (Rock am Ring, 2001/Texas, 2003) - Insane screaming in both of these performances 9. "Jane Says" (Osaka, 2001) - Sleeper pick but it really shows the beauty of his voice and his almost feminine timbre 10. "Soul Song" (Tempe, 1997) - Maybe his earliest great performance

For Freddie Mercury:
LIVE
1. "Spread Your Wings (Newcastle 1979)" - nails the song in its entirity, lot of A4s and B4s 2. "See What A Fool I've Been (London 1977)" - just like Spread Your Wings, and he hits his best B4 live 3. "Need Your Loving Tonight (Oakland 1980)" - again, just like Spread Your Wings, and he doesn't forget the lyrics 4. "Radio Ga Ga (London 1985)" - best rendition of the song, hits every notes, even the Bb4 choruses 5. "Bohemian Rhapsody (Cologne 1982)" - hits every notes, excluding the Carry On, very powerful 6. "Somebody To Love (London 1979)" - arguably best version of the song, hits all Bb4s plus C#5 7. "Now I'm Here (Liverpool 1979)" - very good vocals, hits a lot of high notes and his best live C5 8. "Hammer To Fall (London 1985)" - best version of the song, hits every notes, excluding C#5s 9. "Action This Day (Hamburg 1982)" - hits a lot B4s and even a C#5, all the notes are strong 10. "Rock It (San Diego 1980)" - sings the lead vocals, best intro with superb B4s
STUDIO
1. "The Show Must Go On" - One of the greatest performances ever in my opinion 2. "Gimme The Prize (Kurgan's Theme)" - Plenty of B4s, C#5s and D5s in chest voice, literally blasted out 3. "Barcelona (Early Version)" - better than the album version, fantastic duet between full voice and falsetto 4. "Don't Try So Hard" - superb switch from light falsetto to full voice, great sustained D5s (One closer to Eb5) 5. "All God's People" - very good vocals, goes from Bb2 to A5 in falsetto, hitting a lot of C5s and higher notes in full voice, as F5 6. "How Can I Go On (Alternative Version)" - very passionful version, fantastic full and powerful B4s and C#5 7. "Somebody To Love" - his 'rangiest' song ever, from F2 to Ab5, great vocals and switches from falsetto to full voice 8. "Innuendo" - incredible vocals, two full Eb5s and a lot of high notes and passion 9. "Bohemian Rhapsody" - just Bohemian Rhapsody 10. "In My Defence" - very passionful vocals, plenty of B4s and great full D5

Don't really agree with "Gimme the Prize" being that high. It's definitely his grittiest performance and really demanding, but it's very one-dimensional. The songs below it show a lot more.

My favourites from Matt Bellamy: - Survival (there’s like 3 G#5s and a Bb4) - Big Freeze (Bb4s left, right and centre) - Showbiz (no words needed really) - City of Delusion (those sustained A4s) - Madness (I need to looooooooooove) - Dead Inside (more Bb4s) - Ruled by Secrecy (Very Underrated in my opinion, beautiful song) - Unnatural Selection (again more Bb4s) - Feeling Good (...even more) - Sing for Absolution (A4s) Not really a particular order but these are the first that come to mind. I’ll link my favourite live performances later because a lot of the time they’re more impressive that the originals. Let me know if I’ve forgotten any. High notes on paper aren't the only thing that make a song impressive imo. Like the Unnatural Selection Bb4 which is...like half a second long. Still agree with many of your other choices though, and would add Follow Me.

I agree, I feel Unnatural Selection still has one of the best vocal performances on the album…I actually think I belong to you tops it now especially the French section. The Void is actually a great performance too, it’s nice hearing him in that range and he has great control throughout

Zp Theart
LIVE
1. Black Fire, Italy 2005 - My favorite performance of the song. It's a shame about the recording quality but you can just hear Zp roaring into the microphone. 2. Fury of The Storm, Nagoya, 2009 - Definitely a strong showcase of the latter end of Zp's tenure, starting with something of a regular shriek for him after 2006, but his high notes here sound so crisp. (the opening f5 especially) 3. Valley of The Damned, Piazolla, 2009 - The ending high note here is simply amazing, Zp is generally trashed in his later years performing with DF. But I think he did well given he had audible damage and changed singing strategies that complements the lower tuning and works well with all of their material. 4. Revelations, Bloodstock, 2003 - The earliest entry in the list, very interesting hearing such a young Zp sing such an absurdly difficult song. But I think he pulls it off very well, dancing his way all around the fourth and fifth octave. 5. Black Winter Night, Gods of Metal, 2005 - Fantastic singing here of course he doesn't do all of the ending lines, I don't think he ever did? But he sounds especially powerful here.
--------------------------------
STUDIO
1.Scars of Yesterday - My favorite song by the band and definitely one of Zp's technically strongest outings. I think this is one of his more "emotive" songs as well 2.Body Breakdown- Some decent lyrics here surprisingly! Though they weren't written by the singer, the sections where it's essentially just Zp and singing and a synth really goes to show how excellent he is rhythmically too. Of course I'm sure there were dozens of takes; but his natural flow of the lyrics hits right to my ears. 3.Heartbreak Armageddon - Was originally going to put Soldiers here, but I feel they could both fit here. Heartbreak has a lot of range when it comes to Zp's singing: The lower breathier approach that Zp had a lot on Ultra Beatdown, to his beltier side. (especially during the chorus) 4.Where Dragons Rule - I'm especially fond of the demo version, back when they were dragonheart. But I think the Album version is definitely better in a more objective. Probably one of the few DF songs actually singable by humans topping out around c#5, Zp's voice on here is anthemic of power metal and definitely anthemic of DF. 5.EPM- Probably one of the last in studio performances with DF for Zp, well, either this or Scars. I think his belting here (particularly in the chorus) is just *chefs kiss* Also a very difficult song technically given it changes key so damn often. A great presumptive farewell for Zp and the band, being something Herman Li wrote off as a filler.
