Mikey Carvajal
Associated Acts: Islander (2011-present)
Vocal Range: D2-D6 (4 octaves)
Vocal Type: Coconut Tenorcula Who Likes Sushi
{Vocal Summary}
Nu metal singers, in my opinion, have the most diversity in their voices than most metal and rock singers as they tend to go beyond what is considered to be the standard in heavy music. Take, South Carolina native Mikey Carvajal of the nu metal/post-hardcore band, Islander. He is a tenor with a lot of skill when it comes to his voice. He can go high, low, can sing, scream, rap and toast. His voice has been described as sounding similar to the likes of someone like Chino Moreno, Daryl Palumbo, Jonathan Davis, Fred Durst, Chad Gray, Sonny Sandoval and Zack de la Rocha which Carvajal himself said he borrows a lot of influence from. His high register in particular is start with a lot of soulful and vulnerable emotion behind it. He can sing as high as the low fifth octave and even go higher by falsetto or scream in which he can do very well. Also, he is prone to use the “woo” exclamation many times as a trademark and can do it pretty high to almost reaching As and Bs on the fifth octave. His low register is also strong, despite using it a lot less, has he can sing melodically around F2/E2s while lower notes are either spoken or toasted with strong control. There seems to be no stopping Carvajal and by the looks of it he still has more to offer in his talents.
