{Vocal Summary}One of the most fiercely unique and unmistakably talented performers in the Japanese rock scene, Queen Bee's Avu-chan is, to put it mildly, not the sort to be lost in the crowd. Their voice is notable in that it genuinely feels like two separate voices coexisting in the same body. One voice is an unapologetically masculine baritone, an often gritty and nasal style that has become increasingly capable of projecting strong, full low notes into the second octave. The other voice, meanwhile, is a keening head-voice mix capable of both ethereal, ladylike crooning and near-inhuman high notes. In the band's early days, this voice could often feel unduly squeaky or childlike, but with practice Avu has transformed it into a powerful, keening sound able to consistently pull off one incredibly climactic vocal moment after another. When put together, these two voices often trade off with one another, with a commanding, deep snarl abruptly cracking an octave or more into an unhinged fifth-octave wail and right back down again, and their pitch-perfect live renditions of such vocal lines demonstrate that they are no mere accident.
