{Vocal Summary}
In music, there are a lot of people who they like to call a “renaissance” person due to their creativity and ideas that are usually unconventional. Oregon native, Jessy Ribordy does fall under that description. From his work in the critically acclaimed artistic alt band Falling Up to his indie projects like The Gloomcatcher, The River Empires and many more that have him technically any genre from rock, indie, folk, bluegrass, electronic and so many more that will take your mind to a different state of being. As a singer, Ribordy a tenor with a mostly clean and youthful tone to his voice which was very vibrant and rhythmic in the early Falling Up albums when they were mostly nu-metal inspired as his singing used to go almost in a hip-hop flow. It was around Captiva, however where he decided to go a more ethereal and slower pace to his voice being able to have more emotion to the mood of certain songs that sound like they’ll take you to visualize an imagery of descriptive visuals alongside the lyrics which usually play into spirituality, sci-fi and nature. He also screamed in some songs though he mostly did this in the background as to add hidden grit to the songs. Another method he uses in the background are falsettos that are meant to add into the ambience of the music which got more prominent as Falling Up progressed and also in his side projects. His lower register is mostly used but in lower second octave though when he does use it it is done in a tasteful manner to fit the overall mood of the song. Ribordy is definitely a modern renaissance man who still has a lot up his sleeve to offer and I’ll definitely be around to check what this man still has in store for us.
