Reverend Deacon Mike Tubbs
Associated Acts: East West (1993–2006)
Vocal Range: B1-G5 (3 octaves, 8 notes)
Vocal Type: Traquilviolent Baritone-X
{Vocal Summary}
When nu-metal first started, it was said to differ from a lot of metal subgenres as it focused lyrical wise on pain, alienation and personal struggle. California native, Mike Tubbs of the nu metal band, East West is one of the more expressive in his short career as a singer. At first, Tubbs was mostly a tenor in his younger years able to sing a clean high register while becoming more deeper with the years. In his time with East West, Tubbs followed the usual nu-metal vocal styles like singing, screaming and rapping in which he had a decent flow in mixing the three styles in one song. His expression has been lauded as authentic, raw and vulnerable especially when screaming, he may usually have some intentional cracks in screams when conveying emotion that are usually high pitched especially in his early career. His singing is also very strong as he puts emphasis in his vibrato to match the overall tone of the songs. His lower register is also good with him singing with an interoceptive manner while sometimes going lower in the usual “attitude fry” that some nu metal vocalists use to sound more intimidating. Tubbs is one of the most underrated nu metal vocalists that has come into the scene and wherever he is now, let it be known that his music still is touching many including me. God bless you, Deacon.
