Will Toledo began making music at the age of 16 through his short-lived "Nervous Young Men" band in his home state of Virginia. However, in 2010 he decided to try a new approach after failing to gain an audience and started Car Seat Headrest, originally a solo project spanning 11 self-released albums before being signed to Matador Records in 2015. Toledo's vocal power is most apparent in the 3rd and 4th octaves, with a powerful belting technique, as well as a poppy-sounding falsetto capable of reaching the mid 5th octave.
