Colm McGuinness (born November the 14th, 1994)
Vocal Range: D1 - G♯5
Vocal Type: Colm McGuinness…. high baritone
{Vocal Summary}Colm McGuinness is one of those unfairly handsome, talented and funny pricks that make you want to quit doing anything because of how good they have it in life.
Not only is he a multi-instrumentalist composer that got to work with Critical fucking Role, he's also one of those musicians that seemingly does what they want when they want and comes up with new ways to do it every single time. Colm's biggest successes are found within his re-imagined arrangements of video game themes, original compositions inspired by video games, his folk-oriented covers that range from trad-folk to norse folk metal and interesting vocal takes on popular songs. But among this, one of his most notable attributes is his voice which is often the focus of the top comments of every single one of his videos, usually an overused quip that belongs in a cemetery like "What Is Your Vocal Range? Colm: Yes".
Colm's voice is usually perceived as super deep because of how much he abuses his lower register on pretty much every cover. While it gives a lot of people the impression he's some sort of bass, he's actually more of a high-placed baritone who has refined the craft of squashing the shit out of his voice until it sounds low and rattly. It's a bit of a hard sell and although it's a niche of his that he exploits fairly well it does border on gimmick and gets a little irritating to listen to after a while.
That being said, Colm has some pretty awesome vocal control. His upper register is personally more favourable imo, being able to do seamlessly clean highs and head voice notes as well as powerful, gritty belts all the way to the mid 5th octave. And despite my comments about his lower register early, he's truly amazing at harmonizing and making a song feel huge and epic even if it's just his vocals alone.
So in short, I think he's definitely an interesting specimen and a very good musician even if listening to him for hours on end like I did with this thread can give you a little bit of brainrot and an infuriating urge to do an Irish accent every 2 seconds. Stay handsome, Colm.
