Vocal Type: August Tenorman
{Vocal Summary}
For a long time hardcore especially post-hardcore has been mostly fronted by emotionally driven vocalists who express vulnerability not found in most music. Ohio native, Brandon Rike of the well-known 2000s post-hardcore band, Dead Poetic is one of them . Renowned for his expressive tenor voice, he has been one of the more well-known hardcore singers in Christian music. At the start of his career, the band had a nu metal influence where Rike mostly rapped and screamed throughout the songs until the beginning of the 2000s where he started to use more of his melodic side. In the first 2 official albums, Rike abandoned the rapping of the early EPs and mostly sang and screamed verses. His high register was apparent however in the first album, he mostly sang mid range with the later albums he went more further with his range. His screams also began to diminish with the passing time as a band. Nevertheless, what he did was pretty impressive. He can belt in a clean and clear manner and his screams can sound distorted and throat shattering yet can transition from those techniques in seconds while matching the musical mood. His lower register however is very rare and only have been able to sing above the second octave. Rike has cemented himself as a unique vocalist and only time will tell if he still got some more to show and offer in the future.
