David Paul Pelsue
Associated Acts: Kids In The Way (1997-2007, 2009-2012), KI D S. (2016-present)
Vocal Range: E♭2-F♯5 (3 octaves, 3 notes)
Vocal Type: Apparitional Baritone
{Vocal Summary}
Emo is short for “emotional” which is also the name of the genre of punk music that is more driven by the personal feelings of the musicians themselves. David Pelsue is definitely emo not because of the genre but by his delivery. He is a baritone who has a lot of emotional vulnerability and passion as evident in his voice as he goes from fervent melodies, to moody croons and aggressive screaming especially early in his career. Pelsue usually stays in a certain range of singing but always with the same passion where I notice he almost skips in singing certain notes (ex. G4, A4, E3). Despite being a baritone, he mostly sings in his higher register which is very well controlled and effortlessly melodic, mixing his texture from gruff, to clear and even soulful. He is also well-known for his screaming which sounds manic and almost painful yet always seems to have a grip on how much he conveys the sense of urgency when needed. His lower register, while not as used, is also strong though lower notes tend to be spoken most of the time. Pelsue is definitely one of the most underrated vocalists of emo music and should be giving a chance for anyone who likes more emotionally driven singers.
