Dawson Scholz

Vocal Range: E2-A5 (3 octaves, 5 notes)
Vocal Type: Handmade Tenor Waiting For Melody Again
{Vocal Summary}
"Stop being the print of someone else’s painting", is the motto of singer and guitarist Dawson Scholz of the madhouse group, The Ongoing Concept which makes sense for a band to just do all it can to be original and not a copy of what others are doing especially in metalcore music where there’s a lot of similar sounding bands. Scholz role in the band is being the clean vocalist alongside his other two brothers Kyle who screams and plays keys and Parker on drums. While most credits have praised his brother Kyle for his throat shattering screams, Dawson on the other hand to me at least is the true main vocalist of the band. Other than being the longest running member of the band, Dawson has a different vocal style from most clean singers in metalcore, due to his soulful tone and careful tacked with his voice making the music sound funky, folky and built for grand sing-alongs. His style reminds me of when contemporaries like Greg Puciato, Keith Buckley, Schuylar Croom and Carson Pace with their higher registers being frantic yet under control with singing that may not be people’s cup of tea but will make listeners at least acknowledge that he has skill. His highs are chaotic with him looking like he is "screaming" melodically with a falsetto that still manages to work, having only one album where he took over screaming as the main vocalist. His lower register while not as used as much still is used well with him mostly using it in the background but utilizes the stirring of the passion needed to express the vulnerability of the songs. Scholz is a renaissance man in the realms of core music and definitely lives up to the aforementioned lyric.
