{Vocal Summary}
In most cases with metalcore bands a lot of people would assume the one who screams in the band is the main vocalist. After all, a trait in metalcore is that it should have screaming as the prominent vocal style. For Ohio resident Steve Cobucci of the Scripture-driven melodic core band, Wolves At The Gate, this is one of the rare occasions where the person with the cleans sounds more like the lead singer than the screamer, at least in my eyes. Cobucci is the clean vocalist of the band where at the time was Colin Jones and currently, Nick Detty while great screamers in their own right, Cobucci’s voice demands a lot more uniqueness and attention. His powerful yet vulnerable sounding voice is a characteristic that many fans consider when describing the band’s music as one of a kind. His high register is powerful and while he doesn’t scream some of his belting sounds are so filled with grit and pent-up ardor that he sounds as big as whoever is screaming. Such a whirlwind of sentiments can make a listener feel as if they got hit by coal from an angel. Also a unique attribute, at least to me, is that Cobucci is one of the few tenors in metalcore to actually use their lower register more than most which is moody, emotive and even melancholic. Cobucci has made himself stand out with many of the clean singers in metalcore as being just as intense if not more than the unclean vocalist which for a core band can prove that singing can get a point better than an aggressive expression.
