There was a thread like this on the previous forum. Not a thread for talking about how "modern music sucks muh wrong generation" or whatever, but rather for sharing observations you've made about what artists are doing these days. New songs, albums and projects that you've felt something towards one way or another.
I have these phases some years where I go really hard into new music and this seems like it's one of those years. Although, I haven't been too enthused by the stuff I've been hearing so far. Usually I default to the RateYourMusic front page for new music and I've been ravenously consuming all the stuff I've found on there. Regardless, I've been feeling good about listening to new music either way. I think it's one of the main ways that I connect with the outside world and really catch up on what's going on.
Jazz has always been a good, reliable genre for snapping me out of a dry spell. Somehow jazz always stays at the forefront when it comes to inventive, modern melodies and harmonies. I'd recommend checking out Compassion by Vijay Iyer, Linda Oh & Tyshawn Sorey if you're looking for some stuff to check out in 2024.
