{Vocal Summary}
Hailing from the Great Britain country of England turned Tennessee resident, Jen Ledger of the multifandom (& hatedom) band Skillet, has been considered as one of the most pleasant surprises by many rock listeners. She is mostly well-known as being the band’s main drummer which to some people it can be rare for a woman to be a drummer for some reason but even more surprising is that she can also do a great task of being a singer as well replacing somewhat the role that guitarist and keyboardist (as well as John Cooper’s wife) Korey Cooper has been taking for years. As the secondary singer of Skillet, a role she took when joining at the age of 18 and staring in the band’s seventh studio album, Awake, Ledger demonstrates a haunting yet comforting mezzo soprano voice with a lilt that is controlled and authoritative when needed but soft and ethereal when the right mood. Her highs usually stay around D5s both lead and head voice while higher notes can be in the background although with her more alias as Ledger it seems like she is eager to go a bit higher with her main voice. Her lower range, while not used as much, especially Skillet, is used well with emotive moments but still has more time to be used more in the future. For the most part, Ledger tends to be overshadowed by John Cooper, being the lead vocalist and not every song of Skillet features her on vocals and mostly does backing sometimes, however especially with the fandom agree that her voice sounds more pleasing than Cooper’s raspy style and even non-fans believe that she is one of the band’s saving graces (if the only saving grace). Only time will tell if this drumming angel has more to offer vocally.
