Lydia Slocum (22 July 2001 — present)
Also Known As: kiddie/kiddiebillionaire (on SoundCloud)
Associated Acts: feeble little horse (2021 — present)
Voice Type: Sick of your shit (alternatively: robust large contralto/low mezzo)
Vocal Range: G♯2 - G♯5
{Vocal Summary}
Wait a second… what on Earth… could it truly be? A shoegaze vocalist with decent range??
OK fine, perhaps feeble little horse isn't pure shoegaze as much as they are noise-slacker-twee pop with shoegaze tendencies, but they are certainly one of the more interesting indie bands of the 2020s so far. Musically noisy and upbeat, the band possesses a distinctively Gen-Z attitude of playfulness and apathy that owes in large part to the delivery and lyrics of their primary lead vocalist, Lydia Slocum.
Though not a vocal show-off by any means, Slocum has shown to be quite a versatile singer in her brief career so far. Her light and airy yet strong head voice contrasts with her equally strong, often deadpan lower register, which extends easily to the bottom of the third octave. While her upper chest voice and belting has not been demonstrated much so far, what she has displayed (i.e. "Drama Queen", "i tried 2 deny the way...... THAT YOU SAID GOODBYE", a few other bits on SoundCloud) is quite promising, with a fair bit of Debbie Harry-esque contralto-y bravado. In addition, her occasional forays into unclean screamo-like vocals show strong potential if the band desires to go in a hardcore punk direction, as she herself has (perhaps half-jokingly) indicated.
So, to summarize, Slocum's voice is understatedly versatile and full of character, and I for one am excited to see what she and feeble little horse have to offer in the years to come.
