Bart Millard. What can be said about the guy that hasn’t been said by many who know his music? Being the voice behind one of the biggest songs ever created, “I Can Only Imagine” with his band, the worshipful powerhouse, MercyMe, Millard is more than just that song. Packed with his powerful vocals and different texture mixes make him one of the most unique and strongest singers not just in Christian music but in modern music in general. Millard is a tenor who has a bit of a southern operatic mix in his voice being able to belt notes for a long time and give a soulful take performance in his melodies that sound tasteful and passionate. However, at the start.of his career he mostly sang around a more mellow mid range voice especially in most of his early independent releases and his first 3 albums. Along the way though he began to show the grander scope of his voice with later releases belting higher notes and even more use of head voice and his Bee Gees-inspired falsetto. His lower register is also very impressive. For being a tenor, his lower register could confuse others in thinking he is a baritone with his gospel-like croons and carefully tacked bellowing deep melodies both in main and background vocals. Also outside of his main music Millard has done a couple of cover songs which showcase even more of his vocal abilities even if they are mostly done in a silly way for even when he tries to sound bad he still manages to sound impressive.
