{Vocal Summary}
Renaissance men are what I usually call someone who manages to break the mold of what certain art is expected to be and make it into something that is solely unique to them. The is definitely the case for Texan, David Crowder of his self-named, David Crowder*Band. Considered a "mad scientist" of a worship leader, Crowder has demonstrated a lot of versatility with his skills as a vocalist and a multi-instrumentalist tackling genres like alternative rock, electronica, folk, country, bluegrass, hip-hop, prog rock, symphonic, punk and even disco. In that aspect he might look like a mad man to fuse genres that can be polar opposites but he makes it work. As a vocalist though he tends to mostly be one of a kind in a different manner. Crowder is a tenor with a lot of folk flare to his voice therefore he doesn’t sound the most out there singer especially early in his career where he mostly stayed in a middle range with a fragile timbre. However, as his career advanced he started to open his range and mature his texture to sound more expressive and have more of an esoteric take than before. Crowder in the early days barely touched the mid fourth octave and when he did it was for just a few moments but later he start to have more confidence and got more open and was able to sing close to reaching the fifth octave while higher notes were in the background using head voice or falsetto and it seems with his solo career as just "Crowder" his voice matured a lot and his belting got even better. One thing he always did best is his lower register which is very well used even for a tenor. His lows are sometimes unpredictable but sound profound and well handled even back then with his seemingly youthful take in his voice. Crowder has a lot of passion for worship and he put it in himself to stand out in a genre criticized for being one-note and boring and managed to make art out of praising Jesus. For that, Crowder will be seen as a modern renaissance man and a literal wacko from Waco.
