Jason Roy
Associated Acts: Building 429 (2000-present)
Vocal Range: E♭2-F5 (3 octaves, 2 notes)
Vocal Type: Unshaken Baritone Builder
{Vocal Summary}
Hailing from North Carolina, Jason Roy of the high charting Christian band, Building 429 has cemented himself as one of the most recognizable voices in the genre. From his croaky yet smooth delivery to unpredictable falsettos, Roy is definitely recognizable. Roy is a baritone with a texture similar to that of Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) but with a more grittier alternative rock twist in which he mostly sings in a mid range though uses his lower register more upfront than highs. Most of the time especially in his early career Roy would be the main voice with all of his singing being only in the front while the other band members do backing vocals but that did change as he started to be his own backing vocals for recent material. Almost all his highest notes are falsetto which he uses very masterfully and can be used to elevate the song's emotion. Full of vehemence and talent, Roy is one of the more unique singers in Christian rock and I do not doubt that his work will touch the lives of many who listen.
