Bax Taylor
Years Active: (Sep 3, 2018) - (Present)
Vocal Range: A1 - A5 (4 Octaves 0 Semitones)
{Vocal Summary}Even if you don't recognise "Bax Taylor", there's still a chance you've heard one of his works. He is most popular for his parodies of popular songs, in which the lyrics are replaced with either the lyrics of the song "Low", mom doing, or balls (usually in a jaw). Many of these parodies have an impressive amount of views, with 5 of them getting over 1 million at the time of writing this.
Vocally, he has a very versatile voice, which is great for making parodies of a wide variety of songs like he does. He is capable of relatively weighty lows, as well as highs, but generally chooses to sing with a soft and quiet tone in his mid to low range when not mimicking another artist. When singing low, he is able to sing relatively comfortably throughout much of the 2nd octave, although he rarely sings below E2. The lowest he has reached without fry is a melodic D2. He seems to have access to a decent fry register, although it's very rarely used, and generally not countable when it is used, aside from the A1. As for highs, he unsurprisingly rarely sings significant notes in his signature soft chest voice, and so they are usually either falsetto or belted. He is able to put vocal distortion (seemingly false chord activation from compression) on belts, in addition to singing them cleanly. He can reach a surprisingly solid D5 with belting. Above that is just falsetto/head voice notes, which he has done up to a strong G#5 melodically, and even higher non melodically.
While his joke songs are great, his serious stuff is just as great, if not better, despite being significantly less popular. He's great at composing music and writing melodies, with a lot of the songs he makes being surprisingly complicated for practically being made just with an acoustic guitar and vocals (plus a good amount of reverb). My favorite might have to be "carry on automaton", which just so happens to be a particularly rangey song for him. The original music he makes is very unique, drawing inspiration from a wide variety of artists and genres. Never have I seen someone combine grunge with psychedelic so seamlessly, or even really try to. He also tends to use A LOT of vocal harmonies, sometimes with more than 4 voices at a time. This made note-watching a bit more difficult, but it was a good time nonetheless. In all, I really hope to see him gain more traction on his original stuff at some point, because he totally deserves it. It's so unique and enduring. There are songs of his that I've listened to countless times and I still notice little neat decisions on them I didn't quite pick up on before. So yeah, a pretty neat musician who also has about 4 octaves of range. Rad.
