its not really the worst ever. its fairly clear-sounding and A1 is a very low note to be fair but its like the most squashed uncomfortable sounding low note ive ever heard. couple that with the fact that its pitch isnt the most stable ever and its a very pushed strohbass and it becomes very unpleasant to my ears. personally. if u disagree thats fair like i said it isnt void of things about it that are decently executed

A strong A1 is inaccessible to most singers without the right technique or placement (especially with that strength) so that's very much an extreme note... Is it his best? Probably not, I can agree about the wobbliness. With that said, that's more like nitpicking the technical aspects of a note, kind of like critiquing a tenor high C from Andrea Bocelli relative to the greats, an opera fan might have things to nitpick on while a mainstream listener will probably be left impressed anyway because they're not hearing things in same detail. I guess my bar is low, when I think truly 'bad lows' I think of those botched Cobain verses where he can't even sing the notes properly without that crackly fryish quality and being off-pitch.

It's kinda a funny note but def not the worst. It's just a really in your face note so its bad qualities are easier to pick out

My opera buff friend who is also a singer is likely to frown at anyone's tenor high C, it's a thing. You might get away with singing a B4, if he knows that it's not a C5. Low notes can be a matter of preference. I don't enjoy the super strong fry notes that much, they sound harsh to my ears. Something that sounds more like chest voice even though it lacks overtones, sounds better to me. The A1 in the video may be strong and have good volume, but that's about it.

Along with the amazing warmth and tonal brilliance that a strong, trained lower range possesses, I find that the great low singers often get this thing going with their lower notes where they 'feel like high notes', they're able to make them sound impressive and powerful.

Low notes are definitely a different animal from high notes, it's harder to make them sound outright bad as opposed to how easily a high note singer can screw up and crack but mastering low notes is another thing entirely and something that is actually quite uncommon even among lower-set voices, there are way too many baritones with untrained and unused lower ranges who can't quite get the full potential out of them. Along with the amazing warmth and tonal brilliance that a strong, trained lower range possesses, I find that the great low singers often get this thing going with their lower notes where they 'feel like high notes', they're able to make them sound impressive and powerful. Again it depends on who you ask. The opera fan may be even more demanding of low notes, even high octave 2 notes. An awesomely good low F, G or A can be a thing of beauty. To my ears that might be more impressive than some fairly even fry G1.

It's just a really in your face note so its bad qualities are easier to pick out this is more or less how i feel about it. it being positioned in the arrangement as a money note draws attention to the fact that his voice is not at all relaxed and the note isnt very stable. it makes it kind of abrasive sounding but again certain other aspects of it arent awful it just kind of makes me lol

2:45 - Not awful per se but Adam Gontier has no business having a low range that fucking WEAK considering how averagely placed the rest of his voice sounds, it's outright bizarre. Those are some Jeff Buckley level lows lmao

yeah his lows were never good tho it got a little bit better over the years cos of aging I guess. wouldn't say his voice is "averagely placed" tho considering he falls under the tenor vocal placement and tessitura Lower-placed tenors are the definition of 'average placement', likely the most popular kind of voice out there lol (along with higher baritones and that whole middle area really). His voice is quite average in terms of tessitura (Gontier has a darker than average kind of timbre tho), him having lows that weak is honestly strange because that's what I'd expect from someone like Stevie Wonder, not him. Glad to hear his lows got a little better with time!

I'm gonna yap abit and say that the average joe voice is "high" baritones like Cornell, Vedder, Serj or M Shadows and baritenors with baritone voice placement like Jonathan Davis and his brother Mark Chavez from Adema. now you can say that someone like Cornell could sing higher than someone like Gontier but if in the grand scheme of things if I look at things like comfy total range and tessitura, Cornell is more "average placed" than someone like Gontier becos Cornell actually has good lows and his mid range (third octave) is actually rich and resonant. Gontier's lows are shit or at least were, his third octave singing is quite bland, and his singing at the end of the 4th octave is where he shines the most by far . I'd put singers like Bolton or Paul Stanley in the same realm as Gontier. I'd say tenors are just above average and there's a reason why tenor is called "the highest male chest voice type" not includering countertenor in opera. unless you mean his voice is quite average relatively to other singers in post grunge/alt metal genre becos they're all pretty loud and belty

In his songs from before the Led Zeppelin era he sings in the standard tenor range, typically going up to a G4 or so. Which made sense, in terms of his timbre.
