Robin Pecknold
Member of: Fleet Foxes
Vocal Range: D2 - E5
{Vocal Description}
There is hardly a more fitting name for a folk singer than Robin Pecknold. For someone who claims Bob Dylan as a huge influence, his inflections are markedly on the nose in comparison. Where that comparison shines is in his persistently shifting vocal style between album cycles. The comeuppance of Fleet Foxes a decade ago came with layers of smooth harmonies and pulled high notes enveloping the mix. Over time this developed into a more dynamic style by the time of Helplessness Blues, wherein Robin uses his range in different ways, inserting similar passages of high notes without the same overwhelming feeling as before. Finally, after a hiatus Robin introduces an expanded low range into his repertoire on Crack-Up. Either Robin knows how a unique voice can shape a musician's sound, or he's been remarkably lucky with his creative choices up to this point.
