Courtney A. Taylor (20 July 1967)
Associated Acts: The Dandy Warhols (1994 - present)
Voice Type: Not If You Were The Last Baritone on Earth
Vocal Range: A1 - A5
{Vocal Summary}Woo. Courtney Taylor-Taylor. This guy. How do I describe this guy. Well if I were to sum it up in one sentence it would be he sings like an asshole, but that wouldn't do it justice. First off, I love Courtney Taylor-Taylor and I don't love assholes so that's for one.
I don't know if this vocal summary is a little bit more half-baked because I honestly don't know why I even made this thread. I've gotten mad into the Dandy Warhols recently and for the life of me I cannot explain why. They're such an ordinary band on the surface and they don't overly have too much going on for them. I mean they're an alternative rock band that formed in the mid90s (like about literally thousands of other bands) that had a couple radio hits throughout the late 90s and early 00s. I cannot explain to you why of all the bands in the world I just absolutely love because I'm not exaggerating when I say they might be one of the most underrated acts I've ever heard.
I mean sure on the surface they're not much but when you look deeper you realize they're a lot more than nothing. And I could go on a whole spiel about that but I'm not going to, I'm going to do the parts that I think are relevant. Which is that in my personal opinion, Taylor-Taylor is one of the coolest fucking vocalists I've ever heard.
I mean the guy just oozes charisma and he's always the most noticeable act despite the fact that he's not an extremely flashy vocalist. Don't let his range fool you, he can't really get past F♯4 in chest well on a good day. Does help however that his lower register is fucking awesome and I wished he used it even more than he does. Taylor has shown insane ability down to D2 regularly, especially in his later career, despite the fact that he very clearly could also go down that low with that strength. However when he's not using his strong attitude-driven low range, he's a pretty decent singer overall.
Taylor unfortunately does have the curse of being quite a brightly toned singer without being able to go super high, however this does result in quite a few cool falsetto moments, even in the band's more famous tracks such as "We Used to Be Friends" and "Bohemian Like You". However, then you get lesser known tracks such as "Just Try" (probably his best vocal performance overall) or "Easy" that really show off the fact that he was a pretty good singer despite not really having much semblance of a belting register.
So yes, listen to the Dandy Warhols, they're good and Taylor's songwriting and singing is quite good overall.
