{Vocal Summary}A vocalist who genuinely breaks the mould within the genre, Till is a rare example of a metal singer who has achieved commercial success in the English-speaking market whilst singing predominantly in another language. Raised in northern Germany, Till delivers his lyrics, written in his native tongue, with a thick, unaffected accent, complete with prominent and distinctive rolling of the 'r' consonant.
Further still, where metal singers traditionally belt and wail in their upper reaches, Lindemann's lower register tends to be his weapon of choice, spearheading Rammstein's music with his deep, booming vocals. Because of his proficiency with low singing, retaining a chesty girth to his timbre down into the first octave, Lindemann's voice is sometimes described as that of a bass or bass-baritone. In fact this gruff, intimidating sound to his low singing comes from his technique (dropping his larynx extremely low, as well a fully utilising microphone proximity effect for amplification of bass frequencies) more than his vocal fach, and Lindemann would be better described as a baritone. The somewhat strenuous nature of this approach to low singing is more evident in live settings, where Till's lows become more growly and less resonant than on studio recordings.
Although high singing is not as much of a strong point as many of his peers, Lindemann does have his own moments of higher vocals.
