Richard Shannon Hoon (26 September 1967 - 21 October 1995)
Member of: Blind Melon (1989 - 1995)
Vocal Range: G2 - F♯5
{Synopsis}Ever since being the backing band for many a bigger '90s rock act, Shannon Hoon along with Blind Melon have enjoyed a cult status of die-hard fans with little popular exposure. The only time they truly tasted fame during their time was with their countercultural hit "No Rain", which introduced most of all Shannon's unique, seemingly impossibly high voice along with the mellow instrumentals of the band to the mainstream. Despite being a product of their time in some ways, combined with the acquired taste of Shannon's rasp and boyish tone and the band's instrumental section fusing '90s stonerisms with '60s flower power, in retrospect Blind Melon were always destined to be an outlier. The lack of outright success and his personal life getting under Shannon's skin, Blind Melon have enjoyed an unfortunately mostly posthumous acclaim, but the continuing tributes might yield something to younger generations yet. It is not often you get someone as unique and simultaneously vocally durable as Shannon, and his voice remains unequaled in the rock sphere for its idiosyncrasies.
