Coming from someone who had never heard a full album of hers before, I think Rare is... mediocre, at best. So many songs sound the same, and her vocals are lifeless. She sings without emotions, and after everything she went through, it’s kinda sad. I do like her lower register though. It’s surprisingly strong. Her D3’s and E3’s are very pleasant. Her upper notes are okay but there’s no quality about them, nothing special at all. I’m scared I might look like a hater but honestly, I am really disappointed by the sound of her album and her vocals don’t do it for me either.

I wanted to discuss about her voice, her strengths and weaknesses, that’s the only thing you should’ve cared for. And I think this thread is the right place to discuss about Selena’s vocals and range, because I have seen other people do it on other threads, even back on TheRangePlace. But if it’s not, I respect it. My opinion on the album was just to introduce a context. Sure, the opinion in itself isn’t to be discussed here, but the context is as important as the rest of the post.

Third of all, if my comment is irrelevant and bothers that much, let an administrator delete everything, and call it a day.

Selena Gomez is in my top 10 favourite artists list, but she is also the worst singer in that whole list. I like her style and she has a really pretty tone but I do wish she would train more... As a singing student, I think it's crazy that she isn't amazing by now. She's been singing since she was on Wizards of Waverly Place, sometime in 2008, and she still sounds like she's only been training for 1-2 years? She's either really untalented or she doesn't train enough. Her lows sound good and are supported but she's still very breathy. That might just be a style choice, but to be honest, I don't think I've ever heard live vocals that weren't breathy of hers, so I have a feeling she can't give a strong and clear vocal performance even if she wanted to. (don't come at me about her Lupus. I'm just saying that whether or not her Lupus affects her singing ability, it doesn't change the fact that she's breathy) Kind of like Billie Eilish where it's hard to judge her singing ability because she only sings in this one style that is soft and delicate which is arguably much easier that belting. In live performances, the high notes she doesn't skip sound forced and tense. I suspect that it's a combination of jaw and tongue tension and not lifting her soft palate based on how those notes sound. I'm a huge fan, I just wish she trained more.

Recommend serious adjustments to that list of yours, Gomez is pretty overrated.
