Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Art's vocal performances is how emotive they sound in spite of their relative simplicity. A light tenor, Art's vocal approach was not a particularly explosive or flamboyant one even in his prime, as for the most part he rarely ventured out of his comfort zone - though this may ultimately have been his biggest appeal. His iconic upper register - described by Paul as sounding like a "white choirboy" - was frequently used in Simon & Garfunkel's more restrained songs because of how beautifully angelic it sounded. Paul may have been the creative force in Simon & Garfunkel, but it was Art's heavenly voice and seamless harmonies that inevitably brought life to many of his songs.
