Those are cut and pasted notes, the F#2 is probably from the vocal training video that you can access by clicking on that note in the original post in this thread. I see. The video is not the complete warm-up sessions, it's actually the selected notes from these sessions.

when does the C6 in Dirty Diana happen? I read the whole thread looking for the answer! Does anyone know? I can't hear it at least on the remastered version.

I can't make no promises for you, a lifetime to make it right and there's nothing that I can do.

It's a bit tricky to tell so I've been listening to the isolated vocals like chimmychupa suggested. I think he might touch C6 at 4:08 but I would say it's so quick that it might be one for the spoiler? But the B♭5's and especially G5's are good.

Hi guys, I was watching the BAD 25 documentary and Michael's vocal coach Seth Riggs says he could go down to "bass low C... with clean vibrato". Do you think that was possible? This is what the “bass low C” actually sounds like: youtu.be/cTOsfPwOGIM?si=UTMb42lPa2SIBP6h&t=1m53sDo you think it would be realistic to expect Michael Jackson to hit that note?

What do you guys think about this video? The part before the conclusion is funny. Michael Jackson sang an A2 in some song, therefore he is a baritone. Some baritone can sing an F5 in falsetto, and Michael Jackson never sang higher than F5 after puberty, therefore Michael Jackson is a baritone. The list in the original post in this thread has tons of notes above F5, all the way up to C#6. I've not seen the video but reading this comment i was gritting my teeth "What exquisitely stupid person claims he didn't get above F5 post-puberty?" LOL. Pleasantly reassured.

Some of those notes could be screams and yelps but there's a bolded, reoccurring A5 in a song from the Thriller album, it's strange that he missed that. The operatic baritone that he uses as an example also brags about being able to sing D2s when he isn't in opera mode, the video doesn't bother to compare that against Michael Jackson.

There are G's in Dirty Diana, B♭5s in Earth Song, C6 in Smooth Criminal, several live sustained F#5s in versions of Rock With You through the mid--80s (Yokohama wants its range back) purely off top. It's such a bizarre claim.

We know how outrageous music industry myths can get over time. I'm not saying C2 wasn't possible for Michael (at least during periods of peak morning voice) but I think there's a significant amount of hearsay, fairytale and myth-weaving around Michael's legacy so quotes like these don't really mean anything to me. Reminds me of Elvis fans, if I was to create an idea of his voice based on his myth and the various descriptions from his most ardent fans I'd imagine him sounding like freaking Daniel Heiman. A good example of this is the collection of descriptions of his voice on Wikipedia: Sounds awfully lot like Mike Patton to me LMAO. Never go on pure descriptions on the voice, we've seen those be incredibly inaccurate even when coming from singers themselves, there are numerous examples of this. Recordings or gtfo is my mindset with voices

Here's some backing vocals that aren't included here. E3 in Workin' Day and Night
F5 in Off The Wall
Low notes in Rock with You ranging from F♯3-E♭3 (not duplicate links it's the same video but different parts of the video)
E♭3 in Thriller

It's well documented that the vocal recording session for We Are The World took almost 12 hours to complete. What's not documented is the reason why. During each take that night Michael Jackson insisted on performing backing vocals. Unfortunately, this consisted of him repeatedly screaming the word "children!" whilst others try to sing. After several hours Bruce Springsteen remarked "why don't we just talk to him about it?". Quincy Jones, high on cocaine and quaaludes, and unable to understand the thick Jersey underbite accent of The Boss, misheard this as "why don't we just kick him unconscious?". Quincy agreed with what he thought he'd heard and proceeded to do so, causing Cyndi Lauper to cry and Bubbles to tear the face off of a studio engineer. The rest of the session went smoothly but Jackson's beating was caught on tape. The recording was later used as part of Just Good Friends on the Bad album.

Bona fide musical genius, terrifyingly violent psychopath.
