Tomas Kalnoky (24 December 1980 - present)
Years Active: 1995 - Present
Associated Acts: Streetlight Manifesto (2002-present), Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution (2001-present), Catch 22 (1996-1998)
Vocal Range: F♯2 - B4
{Vocal Summary}As the guitarist, frontman, and main songwriter of renowned ska-punk band Streetlight Manifesto, Tomas Kalnoky has become one of the foremost voices in the genre. However, despite being the leader of the band, his vocals are often considered its weak link, especially in comparison to the virtuosic abilities of his bandmates. And indeed, particularly in his early work, Kalnoky's voice was an unrefined, punk-styled shout that sometimes veered out of tune and tended to cap around the mid-fourth octave. He did improve somewhat over the course of the 2000s, with his high belting becoming a bit more tuneful and consistent, and his acoustic albums under the Toh Kay name demonstrating a surprisingly pleasant lower register. Though label disputes and heavy touring have kept Streetlight out of the recording studio in recent years, it will be interesting to see if he pushes himself further in their upcoming material. An excellent example of how not all songs need a virtuoso vocalist to shine.
