Associated Acts: They Might Be Giants
Vocal Range: C2 - G5
{Vocal Summary}John Linnell is one half of the unabashadley Brooklyn, New York based duo They Might Be Giants. Like other half John Flansburgh, Linnell is a multi-instrumentalist and composes a majority of the band's music. Yeah I just copy-pasted this first paragraph between them, fuck you.
Linnell possesses a heavy baritone voice. Considerably lower placed than Flansburgh, Linnell's upper register has a distinct push to it and his lows are much darker. Interestingly enough however, he appears to be less comfortable singing low than Flansburgh, who often takes the lower parts live and in general is more explorative in this register than Linnell. Perhaps related, Linnell has also begun singing much higher as his career has gone on. A trademark of Linnell's voice is his twang, which can be quite overwhelming to the uninitiated. While clearly possessing a falsetto register, it's seldom ever heard and is almost exclusively buried in backing vocals. Both Linnell and Flansburgh are talented impersonators and adopt various goofy affects in their voice across their catalogue.
