Absence Notification Thread (2,851 views)

In light of users not seeing their posts reflected on range threads often enough, we've created this thread in order to give OPs the opportunity to work together with staff in keeping their threads up to date even in their absence. If you know you're going to be inactive for more than two weeks, you may leave a post here announcing this.

There's a few things that apply to you if you decide to leave an absence notification here:

• You can give permission for staff* to edit notes into your threads in your absence.
• You may also determine if you want albums edited into your threads as well, or if you always want to notewatch a new album yourself.
• This does not give staff members privileges to unilaterally make changes to your threads -- any changes made will have to be agreed upon on the thread beforehand.
• This does not make any of your threads up for grabs or give anyone permission to claim your threads. If you wish to relinquish any threads, the best place to post about that would be the Singer Index.

Any range threads by OPs who have not notified us of their absence here or anywhere else are subject to the same process as before.

Good evening brothers, sisters, enbies, and other non-denominational family members and lovers.

Honestly it's probably long overdue that I make this, cause I've been thinking on this shit for a while now. Basically, to skip all the saccharine justifications, etc, I'm just going to go with this: I need a seriously long mental health break from this forum.

Like, just the forum.

I'mma still be around y'all on the discord, and you can dm me there etc, etc regarding thread related bullshit, but I'm basically making what has been a fairly extended period of inactivity somewhat official.

To tell y'all the complete and honest truth, I do not fucking enjoy this anymore. I can only notewatch about three songs at a time and I'm honestly sick to fucking death of having this many threads to maintain lol.

Now, for a long time i've more or less held a kind of quasi HR role as a moderator, and y'all can still feel free to come to me for that kind of shit. As I said, I'll still be on the discord. To make it clear, the social aspect of therangeplanet is about the only thing I still enjoy.

So, whether or not this ends up being a permanent excursion is yet to be seen. There may come a time where I suddenly go "hey, you know what? that notewatching shit used to be kinda fun" and bless y'all with a Gurrumul thread or something similarly outlandish or niche.

I'm heading into a fairly significant transitional period in my life. I've moved cities again and am going to go back to uni to get my master's next year. When I first joined you guys I really didn't have a particularly stable social life, but now that I've grown into an actual adult, I've finally found social cliques that work and activities which occupy the majority of the time that I don't spend constantly consuming music. Which is the other thing, this forum has long hindered my ability to engage with music the way I traditionally enjoy. It might surprise you to learn that it was incredibly exhausting listening to over 20 Marc Almond related releases purely to hear him sing an F4 and not for any actual meritocratic digestion of the work itself. This year I've done very little notewatching outside of that cute little John Balance number (which I struggled through in spite of my obsession with Coil) and have found that I have finally begun listening to music at rates which I haven't since before TRP2 and am enjoying my spare time far more. Like, I also watch movies, football, and read and shit now too? and like, would I rather sit through some awful mid-solo-career quagmire for D3 - E5, or read Ulysses? Additionally, using this forum has also hindered my creation of my own art. I now find peace in writing my own music, I actually sound like a real singer now too, I write fiction, and I might at some stage get back into writing music reviews again. So yeah, I really don't have much time for the forum anymore.

Now, as I'm not gone, gone, I still expect you fucking goblins to go through the regular channels in regards to my threads. For a lot of the more complete ones, there's no reason other staff members can't just approve updates as long as they're, you know, actually going to improve the overall quality of the research.

Other than that I hope to see y'all outside getting hayfever and kissing ugly people with me too.

Hi, everyone. There's been some activity on my threads recently, so I just wanted to say: Unfortunately, I'm pretty much permanently inactive now. I've posted on the Index several months back, trying to put my threads up for adoption. Anyone can take them. And I give staff permission to edit my threads, of course.
