I think it was brought up on the old forum, too. However, I tend to always rather bold the highest note in the passage itself rather than the one that happens to be the longest-held.

I would argue that the way that F♯5 is utilized doesn't really showcase Myles' abilities any less than the D5 does, either way.

Yeah, I figured there was probably some sort of rule or trend where the highest note is bolded but I just wanted to be sure. Either way, it's an insane vocal for sure.

Edit: About the bold for Summergirl; my understanding is that a bold is significant example of their voice. To me that doesnt necessarily mean the highest. In this case as the D5 is held out quite long, I would say its stronger. To me that should also count.

Unfortunately nah. I mean I don't hate them or anything but in comparison with Year of the Tiger they just remind me of other things Myles has done as opposed to something brand new.

Then again I can't expect every album he ever puts out to be his best one yet.

I'm not a fan of the previous one but this one's pretty good and that D5 (?) is very nice.

This song seems like a culmination of everything hes done until now. I quite like it. Im not expecting this album to be so different like YOTT. He has said it would be heavier and more rock n roll. I dont think he can do any wrong.

I think I hear it. It's pretty faint, but I hear some D5s clearly enough and what sounds like a short trill to E♭5.

That just sounds like a backing D5 to me, which isn't particularly notable since the lead vocals reach the same pitch.

Oop, been kind of preoccupied with my own music these past few days, but The Ides of March is finally on the OP.

So yeah, I think the instrumentals are good, but I think what really rubs me the wrong way about the material is how the lyrics jump out as this disgruntled dad-esque shtick. Myles has always heavily leaned that way, but he's really just saying the quiet part out loud on this album.

I guess he isnt going to be pushing boundaries within his ability anymore. He has said many times that hes all but done with high notes. Ans judging from this album hitting a low of the 3rd octave, I dont see him going that way either. Which is sort of a shame.

I wonder what he means by "high notes" considering he's still hitting pretty bold D5s on The Ides of March lol.

Honestly, I welcome new, 'tasteful' Myles Kennedy. Maybe he'll pull off some more songwriting gems along the way.
