as long as we all agree that Virtual XI, Senjutstu and No Prayer go at the bottom, idgaf where the rest of the albums in the ranking go (Somewhere In Time is mad underrated though)

Are you looking to Iron Maiden choruses for philosophical insight? Is that what you’ve been doing for all these years?

Sad that people hate Virtual XI so universally, songs like Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger and The Educated Fool are excellent. Also I never got what people liked so much about Powerslave. Rime of the Ancient Mariner has 6 minutes of empty space, the title track and 2M2M are just bleh, and there are about 3 filler songs. Need I remind you guys that a certain song has a chorus that goes "Back in the village, back in the village, I'm back in the village again". Truly some of Steve Harris' most philosophical lyricism... I only like "The Clansman", "Futureal" and "Como Estias Amigos" whenever it comes to Virtual 11. About the second point, I'm kind of that way with Number of the Beast. I don't like "Invaders" nor "Gangland". And the title track from NOTB is probably the most overrated song in their catalogue (yeah, yeah, I know... it has that epic scream from Bruce and all that. Whatever..)

Need I remind you guys that a certain song has a chorus that goes "Back in the village, back in the village, I'm back in the village again". Truly some of Steve Harris' most philosophical lyricism... It was the performances on Virtual XI that let it down as much as anything. The transitions between parts felt a bit clunky, and Blaze sounded more tired and pitchy than he did on The X Factor. It's the only Maiden album where I got the feeling the band weren't quite giving 100% in the way of effort (even though I would have liked Blaze to get a chance on an Iron Maiden album with a stronger set of songs too). Clansman was a good song though, and still gets an occasional live outing. I think Powerslave is so widely enjoyed because it was that point of marriage of the two sides of Maiden. They were starting to take things into slightly more elaborate territory, and getting more virtuosic with the guitar lead breaks, but still generally keeping the soundscape of the earlier stuff, without as many synths and acoustic passages as would come on their proggier releases. The "Back in the Village" chorus was unfortunately wimpy, but the other riffs in that song I enjoyed. As far as the chorus lyrics go though, there are quite a few Iron Maiden songs, even some really good ones, that have 1-2 line choruses.
