Metallica:1. Master of Puppets (5/5) 2. Ride the Lightning (5/5) 3. ...And Justice For All (5/5) 4. Hardwired...to Self Destruct (5/5) 5. Kill 'Em All (4.5/5) 6. Metallica (4.5/5) 7. Death Magnetic (4.5/5) 8. ReLoad (4/5) 9. Load (4/5) 10. St. Anger (4/5) Parenthesis are the grades i'd give them in stars. Giving St. Anger four stars out of five is....an unpopular opinion, to say the least.

Kanye West albums 1. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy 2. Late Registration 3. The College Dropout 4. Yeezus 5. 808s & Heartbreak 6. Graduation 7. Ye 8. Jesus is King 9. The Life of Pablo 10. Donda 11. Donda 2 Vultures 1 is an upgrade on Donda 2 at least (does that even count as an album tho?). A bit better assembled than Donda and TLOP too, but lacking the standout tracks of either. Far from his best work, but there are parts of it I like.

Dwight Yoakam:1. 3 Pears2. This Time3. Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.4. If There Was a Way5. South of Heaven, West of Hell6. Second Hand Heart7. Hillbilly Deluxe8. Blame the Vain9. Gone10. Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room11. Tomorrow's Sounds Today12. Under the Covers13. A Long Way Home14. Population Me15. dwightyoakamacoustic.net16. Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars…17. Dwight Sings Buck18. Come on ChristmasI don't feel like elaborating on every single album but I'll say a few things. {A Few Things}- This Time, despite largely being considered his best album, does not get the #1 spot for me not due to any demerits of its own but because 3 Pears honestly just resonates with me a bit deeper. The former is a tremendously solid collection of country music, some of the best in the genre and I revisit it quite a bit, but the latter strikes a certain type of chord with me. Hard to describe. - A handful of weird takes in the top ten. South of Heaven, West of Hell is a genuinely inspired collection of music; you can tell Dwight was putting his all behind the related movie, even if it didn't pan out the way he wanted it to. Kind of muddied by the movie dialogue between tracks, but the music is great. Second Hand Heart, albeit a bit of a step down from 3 Pears, is still a very good album with its own selection of killer tracks. Seldom does Dwight allow himself to get stuck in the mire of overproduced country pop and that holds true here. Both albums eke out wins over Hillbilly Deluxe and Buenas Noches, two "golden era" albums for Dwight. Those albums are both good for sure, but I dunno, neither did it for me quite like the ones above it. Maybe the ballads weren't strong enough on them, and obviously country ballads can be very finicky in terms of quality. Buenas Noches in particular, despite some good tracks, I've always maintained to be the weakest of his golden era albums. - I want to mention Gone real quick. Perfectly solid album, a lot of catchy tracks and you can start to hear Dwight's artistic maturation pan out in his music, whatever that means. It just had the very unfortunate duty of following up This Time, his most critically acclaimed album and the album that basically sent his career to its peak. Had it come beforehand it probably wouldn't have been rendered the black sheep of Dwight's discography. - The debate of Blame the Vain vs. Buenas Noches was one I mulled over for a bit too long but I think I have to give it to the former. Initially I was hesitant, but I feel it has a lot more to offer in terms of a specific artistic identity whereas a fair portion of Dwight's catalog from his earlier years sounds like good country songs. Nothing more, nothing less. I ended up giving Blame the Vain the edge over Gone for similar reasons. - Enter the late '90s through early aughts and things generally get a bit more forgettable. Not bad; in fact I'll clarify that none of Dwight's albums are particularly bad and even his worst albums hold up against George Strait's best. That said, there are definitely some skips in there despite each album also having tracks that I will replay incessantly. - Population Me is definitely a Dwight Yoakam affair, but honestly it didn't grab me much at all. Not an uninspired piece of music, but just one of those things, I guess. - The last four spots here all have their shticks. dwightyoakamacoustic.net is a bunch of acoustic rerecordings, Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars… a bunch of rerecordings with bluegrass stylings, Dwight Sings Buck a tribute album to Dwight's musical hero, Buck Owens, and Come on Christmas a Christmas album. Despite these all being serviceable, none of them really expound upon Dwight's artistry in any meaningful way and in the case of the first three albums I'd much sooner revisit the source material in almost every case. Needless to say, the Christmas album didn't stand a chance.
I FUCKING LOVE DWIGHT YOAKAM!!!!!!!!!
