{Detailed bio}
Though best known as a Hollywood actor who has played major roles in films like the Fast and the Furious series, the xXx series, and several Marvel movies, Vin Diesel has also done a surprising amount of singing over the course of his career, and as of recently has actually made his debut as a recording artist! He is widely recognized for his deep, resonant bass-baritone voice, which unsurprisingly gives his singing a hefty amount of strength and projection well down to the bottom of the second octave. However, in addition to that, other performances of his have revealed him to have a strong and passionate belting range that he can carry as high as G4, and a surprisingly well-controlled falsetto that extends into the lower fifth octave! His voice is truly a marvel to behold, and his singing can only be described as tender and emotional.
Diesel has been acting in film since the early 1990s, and made his first appearance singing in a movie for his role in the 1997 film Strays, in which his character sings The Scarecrow's song from The Wizard of Oz - "If I Only Had a Heart". At this point in his career, he already had audibly developed much of his low range resonance, and was able to sing some very solid C♯2s throughout the performance. Many years later, he also was featured for a small singing part in the 2005 film The Pacifier, in which his character sings a song called "The Panda Dance" in one scene. However, it wasn't until a few years later that Diesel made his first foray into singing outside of film, when he uploaded a vlog of himself singing "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" for Christmas 2009, displaying a very impressive C2-C♯4 in the performance!
Over the course of the early-to-mid 2010s, Diesel began to make occasional appearances for public karaoke performances, particularly on Valentine's Day, singing his own take on pop songs such as "Stay" by Rihanna and "My Heart Is Open" by Maroon 5. Though he had to lower the octave of some of these songs to fit his own comfortable range, he demonstrated some immense low notes in them, and at times even jumped an octave to sing at the same pitch as the original, hitting some very passionate mid fourth octave notes and delicate falsettos! In late 2013, Diesel's long-time Fast and the Furious co-star Paul Walker was killed in a vehicle collision, which led to the commissioning of the song Wiz Khalifa song "See You Again" for the next movie in the franchise, Furious 7, in his memory. Diesel was particularly affected by his death, and made a point to use much of the recognition he got for Furious 7 to further honor Walker's memory - including singing bits of "See You Again" during his acceptance speech for the 2016 People's Choice Awards, and in interviews related to the film. This further increased Diesel's recognition from the public as a singer, though when asked about it interviews he insisted that he did not think he could sing, and considered himself too shy to ever pursue anything with it seriously.
In 2016, Diesel also made an appearance singing with Kanisa Fellowship worship leader Sharon Riley and her choir Faith Chorale, on the set for the third film in the xXx franchise, xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Together with this choir, he performed the gospel song "Oh Happy Day", which he was praised by many YouTube commenters for his soulful and emotional rendition of. Perhaps inspired by this recognition, in 2017 recorded then his first studio version of a song - a remix/cover of "It Ain't Me" originally by Selena Gomez and Kygo. For several years, this remained his only studio release to date, presumably due to his busy filming schedule getting in the way of being able to focus on music as much. However, in 2020, due to him having a sudden surplus of free time from the Covid-19 lockdown, Diesel announced that he was going to be putting some of that free time to use making music. In September 2020, he released his first original song, entitled "Feel Like I Do", which features a catchy pop beat and some pleasant mid/lower high range singing by him, and followed it up with another single the next month, entitled "Days Are Gone". So far it remains yet to be determined whether these songs will be part of a full album, but I think we can all agree that the world needs more of this man's singing!
