Moe Wakabayashi aka moë is a Japanese singer-songwriter and arranger based in Tokyo. She grew up influenced by a variety of artists, from Japanese bands such as JUDY AND MARY and L’arc~en~Ciel to Scandinavian artists AURORA and Björk, and started composing music at the age of 15 using computer softwares. Her free sound-making, which has its roots in the idea of “programming” without the need for a band or instruments, produces a unique worldview that is genre-less but somewhat out-of-this-world, so-called “bedroom pop”, which she describes as “a genre where the music is created without live performances in mind”. Moe explains that a world exists within herself that she created and drew in her sketchbooks as a child. With a voice that is both powerful and languid, and a world of beautiful poetry with delicate psychological descriptions, her music delivers a sense of immersion and comfort to the listener.
